ENDE

Pioneering spirit, the innovative ambition to find new ways and the sweeping power to follow them consequently till the end are the driving forces of BELUGA SHIPPING GmbH, the transportation specialist for project and heavy-lift cargo based in Bremen, the German heartbeat city of project and heavy lift.

In 1995, Beluga Shipping was founded by President and CEO Niels Stolberg, those days acting as a mere cargo operator. From the very beginning he focussed on the niche market project and heavy-lift cargo and on controlled, strategic growth. Already in 1997 the company was able to invest in its first own vessel. The young state-of-the-art Beluga fleet currently comprises 57 multipurpose heavy-lift project carriers with crane capacities of up to 700 tons today which are able to carry out creative tailored transport solutions in the most remote ports of the globe. A team consisting of 400 highly experienced and qualified experts in ten locations worldwide and 1,300 mariners ensures that even the largest and heaviest goods reach their port of destination safely and on time. A concept which more and more customers around the world trust in: According to the Institute of Shipping Economics and Logistics Beluga Shipping is the world market leader in the project and heavy lift cargo segment.

As from 2009 onwards, a new series of heavy-lift carriers leaves the docks. Crane capacities of up to 1,400 tons and loading capacities of up to 20,000 tons will set the benchmarks within the sector once again a lot higher. This measure comes exactly in the right moment: Cargo units – for instance port cranes, windmills, yachts, reactors or complete factory modules – are getting bigger and more complex.

To continue operating at the top level of the market and in order to expand the own leading position, Beluga Shipping fosters research and development and, hence, bolsters the implementation of innovations in practice. Among them number the use of alternative sources of energy like wind generated with the towing kite propulsion system “SkySails” or the development of sustainable concepts to promote the next generation of seafarers or cargo engineers. Six training vessels and up to 160 cadets on deck a year make Beluga the biggest private training shipping company in Germany according to the German Shipowners’ Association.

In addition, the company supports a wide range of cultural and social projects, for example the “Beluga School for Life” in Thailand. At the moment, the school gives about 130 orphans, children and adolescents who the Tsunami 2004 has left behind in sorrow not only a new home and family-like structures but also a well-grounded education which might break the vicious circle of poverty.

However, all these successes and efforts are only possible by virtue of the high motivation and willingness to perform that each member of the Beluga team displays every day. This is fostered for example through direct revenue sharing. Short decision making processes and flat hierarchies let Beluga act fast and agile on the market. A very own “Beluga Spirit” is the invisible result which characterises this engagement. We invite you to test it and get to know the spirit!
